When life gives you wood... have fun in Perky Pants
As wood is at the heart of our product, it is an incredibly important resource for us. Therefore we chose to use a company called Lenzing who have strict procurement policies when it comes to sourcing wood ensuring everything comes from certified forestry operations and from sustainable sources unlike some companies which use trees from pimeval forests in Canada or Russia and endangered rainforests like those in the Amazon, Indonesia and West Africa.
When it comes to wood Lenzings policy is USE ALL, SPOIL NONE.
Beech trees are naturally propogating so even though many are harvested; the forests where the wood is sourced still grows at a rate of 10 million cubic meters higher than the wood harvested a year!
Water
Water
Micro-Modal uses 20 times less water to produce than cotton! In many places around the world, naturally growing materials (such as cotton) need huge amounts of water for irrigation, using micro-modal significantly reduces water consumption along the textile value chain.
Water is mainly used in this process through the production of fibre and pulp from a solid piece of beech tree to the micro-modal material. The water used is also recycled ensuring as little impact as possible on the environment. This makes Perky Pants the ideal option for a environmentally conscious underwear hunter.
Closed Loop System
The prodcution of Micro-Modal materials from sustainable beech trees is almost wholly a closed loop system. This ensures that even if there are bi-products of this production they can be encorporated at another stage of either the Micro-Modal process or in order to aid another product or system.
These bi-porducts allow for things to be made such as glass, pulp, paper, detergent and even sweetner for foods! Lenzing also produce their own bio-energy, chemicals and re-use the water whereever possible.
As well as creating a closed loop system, their fibres are completely biogradable through soil, fresh water or even sea water.
